Whether you call it the Affordable Care Act or health care reform, Derby Insurance Solutions is here to help.
What Is the Affordable Care Act?
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law in 2010 and is commonly referred to as health care reform. Regardless of what you call it, the goal is the same: to provide Americans a way to get quality health insurance they can afford. The ACA offers many people more benefits, and there are three key aspects to remember:
- Everyone will qualify for health insurance, regardless of medical condition
- Most Americans will be required to have health insurance
- Eligible Americans will receive tax credits to help pay for health care insurance
How will the new health care law affect me?
Starting in 2014, almost all U.S. citizens and legal residents will be able to buy health insurance. You can review plan options and sign up using the online Health Insurance Marketplace or by speaking to a local health insurance agent, like Derby Insurance Solutions.
If you already have health insurance with an employer or government agency – including Medicare Part D – or are self-insured, you may not experience changes, but check your current plan. You may benefit from additional changes, such as being able to insure a child under the age of 26 through a parent’s plan.
If you do not currently have health insurance, rest assured there will be affordable options even if you have pre-existing conditions. You’ll be able to compare available plans in easy-to-understand terms and enroll in one that fits your needs and your budget.
When and how should I buy health insurance?
Open enrollment begins Oct. 1, 2013. At that time you may work directly with an insurance agent or visit the online Heath Insurance Marketplace.
Let Derby Insurance Solutions help you compare deductibles, premiums, costs, providers and pharmacies before selecting a health plan.
What if I can’t afford health insurance?
Some individuals may qualify for a government tax credit, which may be applied directly to their monthly premiums. This results in lower monthly payments – or even a $0 premium!
